Since Woodstock, music festivals have become increasingly popular. In the past 30 years, festivals such as Rock am Ring and Wacken have established themselves as a mass event in Germany, following American and English role models. Summer time is festival time. They come for the music and to switch off and escape the daily routine. In heat, dust, mud and garbage they are united by a collective sense of community. More and more small festivals are opening their doors and enjoying steadily increasing numbers of visitors. So there is hardly a weekend left over when no festival takes place during the summer.
